Sanskritहलाहलः, (हलमिव आ समन्तात् सर्व्वाङ्गेषुहलति कर्षतीति । आ + हल + अच् ।) विष-भेदः । यथा, --“समौ कञ्चुकनिर्म्मोकौ क्ष्वेडस्तु गरलं विषम् ।पुंसि क्लावे च काकोलकालकूटहलाहलाः ॥
”इत्यमरः । १ । ८ । १० ॥
हलमिव आ समन्तात् हलति विलिखतिहलाहलः । हलज विलेखे अन् स्वार्थे ष्णेहालाहलश्च । निपातनात् ललोपे हाहलश्च ।“हालाहलं हालहलं हाहलञ्च हलाहलम् ॥
”इति रुद्रः ॥
एते काकोलादयस्त्रयः पुंसि क्लीवे चेत्यन्वयः ।केचित्तु क्ष्वेडभेदा इति पुंस्त्वे वक्ष्वमाणत्वात्पुंसि क्लीवे चेत्यस्य विषमित्यनेन सम्बन्धः ।इत्याहुः । तन्नातिहृद्यम् ।“काकोलमुग्रतेजः स्यात् कृष्णच्छवि महा-विषम् ।”इति वैद्यकम् ।“तत् कालकूटं विषमुग्रतेजःकण्ठे धृतं पर्व्वतराजकन्ये ॥

हालाहलं विषमिव प्रगुणं तदेव इति वामनः ॥
