सान्दीपनि / SĀNDĪPANI. Preceptor of śrī kṛṣṇa and balabhadra rāma from whom they learned all the Vedas, art of drawing, astronomy, gāndharva veda, medicine, training elephants and horses and archery. (For details see under kṛṣṇa, para 12).

 (सन्दीपनस्यापत्यमिति । सन्दी-पन + इञ् ।) मुनिविशेषः । यथा, ब्रह्मवैवर्त्तेश्रीकृष्णजन्मखण्डे । ९९ । ३० ।“विश्वामित्रः सतानन्दो जाजलिस्तैतिलिस्तथासान्दीपनिश्च ब्रह्मांशो योगिनां ज्ञानिनां गुरुः ॥
”अपि च ।“विदिताखिलविज्ञानौ तत्त्वज्ञानमयावपि ।शिष्याचार्य्यक्रमं वीरौ ख्यातयन्तौ यदूत्तमौ ॥
ततः सान्दीपनिं काश्यमवन्तिपुरवासिनम् ।अस्त्रार्थं जग्मतुर्व्वीरौ बलदेवजनार्द्दनौ ॥
”काश्यं काश्यां जातम् ।“तस्य शिष्यत्वमभ्ये त्य गुरुवृत्तिपरौ हि तौ ।दर्शयाञ्चक्रतुर्व्वीरावाचारमखिले जने ॥
सरहस्यं धनुर्व्वेदं ससंग्रहमधीयताम् ।अहोरात्रै श्चतुःषष्ट्या तदद्भुतमभूद्द्विज ॥
सान्दीपनिरसंभाव्यं तयोः कर्म्मातिमानुषम् ।विचिन्त्य तौ तदा मेने प्राप्तौ चन्द्रदिवाकरौ ॥
अस्त्रग्राममशेषञ्च प्रोक्तमात्रमवाप्य तौ ।ऊचतुर्ब्रियतां या ते दातव्या गुरुदक्षिणा ॥
सोऽप्यतीन्द्रियमालोक्य तयोः कर्म्म महामातिःअयाचत मृतं पुत्त्रं प्रभाते लवणार्णवे ॥
”अतीन्द्रियं अन्यत्रादृष्टपूर्व्वम् ।“गृहीतास्त्रौ ततस्तौ तु सार्घपात्रो महोदधिःउवाच न मया पुत्त्रो हृतः सान्दीपनेरिति ॥
दैत्यः पञ्चजनो नाम शङ्खरूपः स बालकम् ।जग्राह सोऽस्ति सलिले ममैवारिनिसूदन ॥
इत्युक्तेऽन्तर्जलं गत्वा हत्वा पञ्चजनञ्च तम् ।कृष्णो जग्राह तस्यास्थिप्रभवं शङ्खमुत्तमम् ॥
तं पाञ्चजन्यमापूर्य्य गत्वा यमपुरीं हरिः ।बलदेवश्च बलवान् जित्वा वैवस्वतं यमम् ॥
तं बालं यातनासंस्थं यथापूर्व्वशरीरिणम् ।पित्रे प्रदत्तवान् कृष्णो बलश्च बलिवां वरः ॥
