Englishशशाद १ / ŚAŚĀDA I. Son of Vikuksi, the King of ayodhyā. purañjaya was Śaśāda's son. (brahmāṇḍa purāṇa. Chapter 1).
शशाद २ / ŚAŚĀDA II. A son of ikṣvāku. His real name was vikukṣi. (For the detailed story as to how ‘Vikukṣi’ became ‘Śaśāda’ see under vikukṣi).

Sanskritशशादः, (शशमत्तीति । अद + अच् ।) श्येन-पक्षी । इति राजनिर्घण्टः ॥
(इक्षाकुपुत्त्रः ।यथा, महाभारते । ३ । २२१ । १ ।“इक्षाकौ संस्थिते राजन् शशादः पृथिवी-मिमाम् ।प्राप्तः परमधर्म्मात्मा सोऽयोध्यायां नृपोऽभवत् ॥
