While a brahmacārin (Religious student) he performed tapas and secured divine arrows. Afterwards, having been overcome by the charms and appeals of an apsarā woman named Jānapatī, śaradvān had seminal emission from which were born kṛpa and kṛpī. (For details see under kṛpa).
