वर्ज्ज्यः त्रि, (वृज् + ण्यत् ।) वर्ज्जनीयः । यथा, --“अतः प्ररं शृणुष्व त्वं वर्ज्यावर्ज्यप्रतिक्रियाम् ।भोज्यमन्नं पर्य्युषितं स्नेहाक्तं चिरसंस्थितम् ॥
अस्नेहाश्चापि गोधूमयवगोरसविक्रियाः ।शशकः कच्छपो गोधा सेधा मत्स्योऽथ शल्लकः ॥
भक्ष्या ह्येते सदा वर्ज्ज्यौ ग्रामशूकरकुक्कुटौ ।पितृदेवादिशेषञ्च श्राद्धे ब्राह्मणकाम्यया ।प्रोक्षितञ्चौषधार्थञ्च खादन् मांसंन दोषभाक् ॥
