Revā, a name of the Narmadā (Nerbudda) river, otherwise
occurring only in post-Vedic literature, is seen by Weber^1 in
the word Revottaras, which is found in the Śatapatha Brāh-
maṇa, ^2 and is certainly a man's name.

 (रेवते उत्प्लुत्य गच्छतीति । रेव +अच् । टाप् ।) नर्म्मदा नदी । इत्यमरः । १ ।१० । ३२ ॥
(यथा, मेवदूते । २० ।“रेवां द्रक्ष्यस्युपलविषमे बिन्ध्यपादे विशीर्णाम् ॥
”)अस्यां शिवलिङ्गोत्पत्तिर्यथा, --“रेवया च कृतं पूर्व्वं तपः शिवसुतुष्टिदम् ।मम त्वत्सदृशः पुत्त्रो भूयादिति विधो तथा ॥
अहं कस्यापि न सुतः किं करिष्यामि चिन्त-यन् ।रेवायास्तु वरो देयस्त्ववश्यं मृगलाञ्छन ॥
निश्चित्यैवं तदा प्रोक्तं प्रसन्नेनान्तरात्मना ।लिङ्गरूपेण ते देवि ! गजाननपुरस्कृतः ।गर्भे तव वसिष्यामि पुत्त्रो भूत्वा शिवप्रिये ! ॥
मम त्वमपरा मूर्त्तिः ख्याता जलमयी शिवा ।शिवशक्तिविभेदेन चावामेकत्र संस्थितौ ॥
एवं दत्तवरा रेवा मत्सान्निध्यमिहागता ।रेवाखण्डमिति ख्यातं ततः प्रभृति गोपते ॥
”इति वाराहे सोमेश्वरादिलिङ्गमहिमाध्यायः ॥
रतिः । सा च कामपत्नी । नीलीवृक्षः । इतिमेदिनी । वे, २१ ॥
दुर्गा । यथा, --“रेवा तु नर्म्मदा देवी नदी वा रेवती मता ।अतिखण्डनबन्धा वा लोके देवी प्रकीर्त्तिता ॥
