Englishरेवन्त / REVANTA. A son of the sun.1) Birth. The sun married the daughter of viśvakarmā named saṁjñā. She gave birth to three children named manu, yama and yamī. Once, being unable to bear the radiance of her husband, saṁjñā went to the forest to do penance. During this period chāyā the maid of saṁjñā attended on the sun. three children, Śanaiścara, manu and tapatī were born to the Sun of chāyā. Once chāyā cursed yama. Then only did the Sun remember about saṁjñā. At that time saṁjñā had been doing penance in the forest in the form of a mare. The Sun took the form of a horse and lived with her in the forest. From this union aśvinīkumāras and also the last son revanta were born. (viṣṇu purāṇa, aṁśa 3, Chapter 2).2) lakṣmī astounded at the sight of revanta. Sanskritरेवन्तः, सूर्य्यपुत्त्रविशेषः । स च गुह्यकाधि-पतिः । तस्योत्पत्तिर्यथा, --“ततोऽसौ योगमास्थाय स्वां भार्य्यां वडवां रविः ।ददश नियमस्थान्तामश्वरूपमथाकरोत् ॥
मैथुनायोपचक्राम सूर्य्योऽसौ च त्वरान्वितः ।नेच्छन्ती तेन संयोगं परपुंसोऽभिशङ्कया ॥
संग्रहात् संमुखी तजो मुखनासिकया रवेः ।देवौ यतः प्रजायेतामश्विनौ भिषजां वरौ ।नासत्यौ द्बौ तृतीयश्च रेवन्तोऽश्वप्रवाहकः ॥
”इति वह्निपुराणम् ॥
अपि च ।“ततोऽश्वरूपधृक् भानुरुत्तरानगमत् कुरून् ।ददृशे तत्र संज्ञान्तु वडवारूपधारिणीम् ॥
सा च दृष्ट्वा तमायान्तं परपुंसोऽभिशङ्कया ।जगाम संमुखं तस्य पृष्ठरक्षणतत्परा ॥
ततश्च नासिकायोगे तयोस्तत्र समेतयोः ।नासत्यदसौ तनयावश्ववक्त्राद्बिनिर्गतौ ॥
रेतसोऽन्ते च रेवन्तः खड्गी धन्वी तनुत्रधृक् ।अश्वारूढः समुत्पन्नो वाणतूणसमन्वितः ॥
ततः स्वं रूपममलं दर्शयामास भानुमान् ।तस्यै सा च समालोक्य स्वरूपं मुदमाददे ॥
स्वरूपधारिणीञ्चेमामानिनाय निजाश्रमम् ।संज्ञां भार्य्यां प्रीतिमतीं भास्करो वारितस्करः ॥
ततः पूर्व्वसुतो योऽस्याः सोऽभूद्वैवस्वतो मनुः ।द्बितीयश्च यमः शापाद्धर्म्मदृष्टिरभूत् सुतः ॥
कृमयो मांसमादाय पादतस्ते महीतलम् ।पतिष्यन्तीति शापान्तं तस्य चक्रे पिता स्वयम् ॥
धर्म्मदृष्टिर्यतश्चासौ समो मित्रे तथाहिते ।ततो नियोगं तं यान्ये चकार तिमिरापहः ॥
यमुना च नदी जज्ञे कलिन्दान्तरवाहिनी ।अश्विनौ देवभिषजौ कृतौ पित्रा महात्मना ।गुह्यकाधिपतित्वे च रेवन्तो विनियोजितः ॥
”इति मार्कण्डेयपुराणे वैवस्वतमन्वन्तरे ॥

सप्तदिनकर्त्तव्यनीराजनविधौ रेवन्तस्य राज-कर्त्तृकपूजाविधिर्यथा, --“सप्तमे हि तु रेवन्तं पूजयेत्तोरणान्तरे ।सूर्य्यपुत्त्रं महाबाहुं द्विभुजं कवचोज्ज्वलम् ॥
ज्वलभ्तं शुक्लवस्त्रेण केशान् वितत्य वाससा ।कशां वामकरे बिभ्रद्दक्षिणे तु करे पुनः ।खड्गं न्यस्य महातीक्ष्णं सितसैन्धवसंस्थितम् ॥
एवंविधन्तु रेवन्तं प्रतिमायां घटेऽपि वा ।सूर्य्यपूजाविधानेन पूजयेत्तोरणान्तरे ॥
”इति कालिकापुराणे नीराजनविधिः ८६अध्यायः ॥

कोजागरपूर्णिमारात्रौ द्वारो-पान्ते तस्य पूजाविधिर्यथा, --“द्वारोपान्ते सुदीप्तस्तु संपूज्यो हव्यवाहनः ।यवाक्षतघृतोपेतैस्तण्डुलैश्च सुतर्पितः ॥
संपूजितव्यः पूर्णेन्दुः पयसा पायसेन च ।स्कन्दः सभार्य्यो रुद्रश्च तथा नन्दीश्वरो मुनिः ॥
गोमद्भिः सुरभिः पूज्या छागवद्भिर्हुताशनः ।उरभ्रवद्भिर्व्वरुणो गजवद्भिर्व्विनायकः ।पूज्यः साश्वैश्च रेवन्तो यथाविभवविस्तरैः ॥
