महायज्ञः,
पुं,
 (महान् यज्ञः ।) वेदपाठादि-रूपपञ्चप्रकारयज्ञः । यथा, --“पाठो होमश्चातिथीनां सपर्य्या तर्पणं बलिः ।एतैः पञ्च महायज्ञा ब्रह्मयज्ञादिनामकैः ॥
”इत्यमरः । २ । ७ । १४ ॥
अपि च ।“दिव्यो भौमस्तथा पैत्रो मानुषो ब्राह्मएव च ।एतैः पश्च महायज्ञा ब्रह्मणा निर्म्मिताः पुरा ॥
ब्राह्मणानां हितार्थाय इतरेषाञ्च तन्मुखाः ।इतरेषान्तु वर्णानां ब्राह्मणैः कारिताः शुभाः ॥
एवं कृत्वा नरो भुक्त्वास्माद्धरित्रि ! विशुध्यति ।अन्यथा ब्रीहयोऽप्येते एकैके मृगपक्षिणः ॥
मन्तव्या दातृभोक्तॄणां महामांसन्तु तत् स्मृतम् ॥
”इति वराहपुराणम् ॥
(यथा च मनौ । २ । ३८ ।महायज्ञैश्च यज्ञैश्च ब्राह्मीयं क्रियते तनुः ॥
