मधुच्छन्दस् / MADHUCCHANDAS. A sage who observed correctly the āśrama of vānaprastha. He was one of the Brahmavādī sons of viśvāmitra. (Śloka. 50, Chapter 4, anuśāsana parva). viśvāmitra had a hundred sons like madhucchandas. (10th skandha, bhāgavata). The first Sūkta of ṛgveda was written by this sage.

Madhu-chandas, the reputed author of the first ten hymns of
the first Maṇḍala of the Rigveda, is mentioned as a Ṛṣi in the
Kauṣītaki Brāhmaṇa^1 and the Aitareya Āraṇyaka.^2 In the
Aitareya Brāhmaṇa^3 he counts as the fifty-first son of Viśvā-
mitra, and his Praüga (hymn at the morning service) is
mentioned in the Śatapatha Brāhmaṇa.^4
