मथु(थू)रा [मथ्-उ-ऊ-रच्] N. of an ancient town situated on the right bank of the Yamunā, the birth-place of Kṛṣṇa and the scene of his amours and exploits
it is one of the seven sacred cities in India (see अवंति), and is, to this day, the favourite resort of thousands of devotees. It is said to have been founded by Śatrughna
