पुराणम्
English
भीमरथी / BHĪMARATHĪ (bhīmā). A river in the South extolled in the purāṇas. Sins of those who bathe in this river will vanish. On its shore is a sacred place called Paṇḍharapura. (Vana Parva, Chapter 88, bhīṣma parva, Chapter 9).

 जनानामवस्थाविशेषः । यथा, --“सप्तसप्ततिके वर्षे सप्तमे मासि सप्तमी ।रात्रिर्भीमरथी नाम नराणां दुरतिक्रमा ॥
”इति शब्दमाला ॥
अपि च ।“सप्तसप्ततिवर्षाणां सप्तमे मासि सप्तमी ।रात्रिर्भीमरथी नाम नराणामतिदुस्तरा ।तामतीत्य नरो योऽसौ दिनानि यानि जीवति ॥
क्रतुभिस्तानि तुल्यानि सुवर्णशतदक्षिणैः ।गतिः प्रदक्षिणं विष्णोर्जल्पनं मन्त्रभाषणम् ।ध्यानं निद्रा सुधा चान्नं भीमरथ्याः फलश्रुतिः ॥
”इति वैद्यकम् ॥
नदीभेदः । यथा राजनिर्घण्टे ।मलापहा भीमरथी च घट्टगापथ्या च कृष्णा जलसाम्यगा गुणैः ॥
”(इयं हि सह्यपर्व्वतोद्भवा । यथा, विष्णुपुराणे ।२ । ३ । ११ ।“गोदावरी भीमरथी कृष्णवेण्यादिकास्तथा ।सह्यपादोद्भवा नद्यः स्मृताः पापभयापहाः ॥
