 पूर्वस्येव पूर्वेण तुल्यं वा क्रियावति । १ पू-र्वेण तुल्यक्रियान्वितभेदे पूर्वस्य २ तुल्ये च । पूर्वं कारणंविषयतयास्त्यस्य मतुप् मस्य वः । ३ कारणेन कार्य्या-नुमाने

 । “अथ तत्पूर्वकं त्रिविधमनुमानं पूर्व-च्छेषवत्सामान्यतोदृष्टञ्च” गौत० सू० । “पूर्वं कारणंतद्वत् कारणलिङ्गकम् यथा मेघोन्नतिविशेषेण कार्य्यानु-मानमिति” गौत० वृत्तिः । “तत्रैकं दृष्टस्वलक्षणसामान्य-विषयं यत् तत् पूर्ववत्, पूर्वं प्रसिद्धं दृष्टस्वलक्षणसा-मान्यमिति यावत् तदस्य विषयत्वेनास्त्यनुमानज्ञान-स्येति पूर्ववत् यथा धूमाद्वह्नित्वसामान्यविशेष पर्वते-ऽनुमीयते तस्य च वह्रिसामान्थविशेषस्य स्वलक्षणोवह्निविशेषो दृष्टो रसवत्याम्” सां० त० कौ० ।
