तत्पृष्ठे प्रस्तरेद्दर्भान् याम्याग्रान् देशसम्भवान् ।ततोऽवनेजनन्दद्यात् संस्मरन् गोत्रनामनी ॥
तिलसर्पिर्मधुक्षीरैः सञ्चितं तप्तमेव हि ।दद्यात् प्रेताय पिण्डन्तु दक्षिणाभिमुखस्थितः ॥
फलमूलगुडक्षीरतिलमिश्रन्तु कुत्रचित् ।अर्घ्यैः पुष्पैस्तथा दीपैर्धूपैस्तोयैः सुशीतलैः ॥
ऊर्णातन्तुमयैः शुद्धैर्वासोभिः पिण्डमर्च्चयेत् ।प्रयाति यावदाकाशं पिण्डाद्वास्पमयी शिखा ॥
तावत्तु संमुखस्तिष्ठेत् सर्व्वं तोये ततः क्षिपेत् ।दिवसे दिवसे देयः पिण्ड एवं क्रमेण तु ॥
सद्यःशौचेऽपि दातव्याः सर्व्वेऽपि युगपत्तथा ।त्र्यहाशौचे प्रदातव्याः प्रथमे त्वेक एव हि ॥
द्वितीयेऽहनि चत्वारस्तृतीये पञ्च चैव हि ।एकस्तोयाञ्जलिस्त्वेवं पात्रमेकञ्च दीयते ॥
द्वितीये द्वौ तृतीये त्रीन् चतुर्थे चतुरस्तथा ।पञ्चमे पञ्च षष्ठे षट् सप्तमे सप्त एव च ॥
अष्टमेऽष्टौ च नवमे नवैव दशमे दश ।येन स्युः पञ्चपञ्चाशत्तोयस्याञ्जलयः क्रमात् ॥
तोयपात्राणि तावन्ति संयुक्तानि जलादिभिः ॥
”इति शुद्धितत्त्वम् ॥

पिण्डनिर्व्वपणं तत्र प्रेतानामनुपूर्व्वशः ।चकार स्वपितॄणाञ्च दायादानामनन्तरम् ॥
आत्मनश्च महाबुद्धिर्महावेद्यां तिलैर्विना ।पिण्डनिर्व्वपणं चक्रे तथान्येषाञ्च गोत्रिणाम् ॥
एवं प्रदत्तेष्वथ वै पिण्डेषुं प्रेतभावतः ।विमुक्तास्ते द्विज प्रेता ब्रह्मलोकं ततो गताः ॥

  मेदि० । तत्र श्राद्धशेषद्रव्यान्नादिनिर्मिते पदार्थेसामगानां पुंस्त्वेन प्रयोगः “पिण्डानोद्वाहनात्तेषाम्”छन्दोगपरिशिष्टे पुंस्त्वेन प्रयोगात् । यजुर्वेदिभिः “असा-वेतत्ते पिण्डंस्यधेति” यजुःश्राद्धप्रयोगात् क्लीवत्वम् ।“तेभ्यःपिण्डं मया दत्तमक्षय्यमुपतिष्ठताम्” वा युपु०  प्रयोगःयजुर्वेदिविषयः । तत्र देयद्रव्यादि श्रा० त० निरूपितं यथा“यावदन्नमुपादाय हविषोऽर्भकमर्भकम् । चरुणा सहसन्नीय पिण्डदानमुपक्रमेत्” । श्राद्धार्थाद्धविषोऽन्नादेःसकाशाद् यावत् भक्ष्यमोदनव्यञ्जनादि ततोऽल्पाल्पं गृ-हीत्वा अग्नौकरणचरुशेषेण सह मिश्रीकृत्य पिण्ड-दानमारभेदित्यर्थः । एकस्मिन् पात्रेऽन्नं मध्वादिद्रव्येणमिश्रयेत् । “मध्वाज्यतिलसंयुक्तं सर्वव्यञ्जनसंयुतम् ।उष्णमादाय पिण्डन्तु कृत्वा बिल्वफलोपमम् । दद्यात्पितामहादिभ्यो दर्भमूले यथाक्रमम्” इति ब्रह्मपुराणवचनात् । अत्र पितामहपदं पितृपरं वचनान्तरैकवा-क्यत्वात् । “स्वपित्रे प्रथमं पिण्डं दद्यादुच्छिष्टसन्निधौ ।पितामहाय चैवाथ तत्पित्रे च ततःपरम् । दर्भमूलेलेपभाजस्तर्पयेल्लेपघर्षणैः” ।अत्र पिण्डमात्रस्य विल्वफलोपमत्वश्रुतेः छन्दोगप-रिशिष्टे च पित्रादीन् मातामहादीनुपक्रम्य “अवनेज-नवत् पिण्डान्कृत्वा बिल्वप्रमाणकानिति” श्रुतेश्च सामगयजुर्वेदिनोर्विल्वप्रमाणकत्वम् “पृथङ्मातामहानाञ्च के-चिदिच्छन्ति सत्तमा । त्रीन् पिण्डानानुपूर्व्येण साङ्गुष्ठमुष्टिवन्धनात्” इति वायुपुराणीयं शाख्यान्तरीयं श्रा० त० ।वायवीये “मधुसर्पिस्तिलयुतांस्त्रीन् पिण्डान्निर्वपेद्बुधः ।त्रिस्थली सेतौ “तिलमन्नं च पानीयं धूपं दीषं पयस्तथा ।मधु सर्पिः खण्डयुक्तं पिण्डमष्टाङ्गमुच्यते” । याज्ञवल्क्यः“सर्वमन्नमुपादाय सतिलं दक्षिणामुखः । उच्छिष्ट स-न्निधौ पिण्डान् दद्याद्वै पितृयज्ञवत्” । केचित्तु पिण्डेषुमाषान् वर्जयन्ति “माषाः श्राद्धेषु वै ग्राह्या वज्यांश्चैवा-ग्निपिण्डयोः । व्राह्मणेषु यथा मद्यं तथा माषोऽग्निपिण्डयोः” इति । स्मृतिसारात् “माषान् सर्वत्र वै दद्यात्पिण्डेऽग्नौ च विवर्जयेत्” इति स्मृतेश्च । अथ पिण्डप्र-माणभेदः हेमाद्रावङ्गिराः “कपित्थविल्वमात्रान् वा पि-ण्डान् दद्याद् विधानतः । कुक्कुटाण्डप्रमाणान् वाम-लकैर्बदरैः पुमान्” इति । तत्रैव धूम्रः “कपित्थस्य प्रमा-णेन पिण्डान् दद्यात् समाहितः । तत्समं विकिरंदद्यात् पिण्डान्ते तु षडङ्गुलैः” । अन्त्येष्टिपद्धतौ भ-ट्टास्तु “एकोद्दिष्ट सपिण्डे तु कपित्थन्तु विधीयते ।नारिकेलप्रमाणन्तु प्रत्यव्द मासिके तथा । तीर्थे दर्शेच सप्राप्ते कुक्कुटाण्डप्रमाणतः । महालये गयाश्राद्धेकुर्य्यादामलकोपमम्” इत्याहुः कलिकायामाचार्य्यः“यत्र स्युर्वहवः पिण्डास्तत्र विल्वफलोपमाः । यत्रचैको भवेत् पिण्डस्तत्र लाङ्गलिसन्निभः” । प्रेतपिण्डस्तुदैर्घ्येण द्वादशाङ्गुल उच्यते” इति । वायवीये “पत्नीपिण्डांस्तु मृद्गीयात् त्रिवर्गस्य सहायिनी” । हेमाद्रौ लौ-गाक्षिः “महालये गयायां च प्रेतश्राद्धे दशाहिके ।पिण्डशब्दप्रयोगः स्यादन्नमन्यत्र कीर्त्तयेत्” नि० सि०पिण्डदानद्रव्यभेदाः आग्नेये उक्ता यथा “पायसेनाज्ययुक्तेन सक्तुना चरुणा तथा । पिण्डदानं तण्डुलैश्चगोधूमैस्तिलमिश्रितैः” इति । देवीपुराणे च “सक्तुभिःपिण्डदानञ्च संयावैः पायसेन च । कर्त्तव्यमृषिभिःप्रोक्तं पिण्याकेन गुडेन वा” अथ प्रेतपिण्डसंख्यायद्यपि हेमाद्रौ पारस्करेण“ब्राह्मणे दश पिण्डास्तु क्षत्रिये द्वादश स्मृताः । वैश्येपञ्चदश प्रोक्ताः शूद्रे त्रिंशत् प्रकीर्त्तिता” इत्युक्तं तथापि“प्रेतेभ्यः सर्ववर्णेभ्यः पिण्डान् दद्याद्दशैव तु” इति ।तेनैवोक्तेः सर्वेषां दशैव ज्ञेयाः । भदरत्नेऽप्येवम् तथा चहेमाद्रौ ब्राह्मपाद्मयोः “जात्युक्ताशौचतुल्यांस्तु वर्णानांक्वचिदेव हि । देशधर्मान् पुरस्कृत्य प्रेतपिण्डान् वप-न्त्यपि” इत्युक्त्वा विप्राद्येषु दशमपिण्डोत्कर्षः उक्तः “दे-यस्तु दशमः पिण्डो राज्ञां बै द्वादशेऽहनि । वैश्यानांवै पञ्चदशे देयस्तु दशमस्तथा । शूद्रस्य दशमः पिण्डोमासे पूर्णेऽह्नि दीयते” । प्रेतपिण्डदानस्थानम् “असं-स्कृतानां भूमौ पिण्डं दद्यात् संस्कृतानां कुशेषु” इतिपाचेतसोक्तम् मिताक्षरायां “स्मृत्यन्तरे भूमौ माल्यंपिण्डं पानीयमुपले वा दद्युः” पिण्डं प्रेतपिण्डम् ।शुनःपुच्छः “फलमूलैश्च पयसा शाकेन च गुडेन च ।तिलमिश्रन्तु दर्भेषु पिण्डं दक्षिणती हरेत् । तूष्णींप्रसेकं पुष्पं च धूपं दीपं तथैव च । शालिनासक्तुभि-र्वापि शाकैर्वाप्यथ निर्वपेत् । प्रथमे नियतं द्रव्यं तदेवस्याद्दशाहिकम्” । पिण्डशब्दस्य देहतदैकदेशपरता तुअसपिण्डशब्दे उक्ता । दायभागमते तु निर्वाप्यषिण्डप-रतेति । भावे अच् । २० संघाते पिण्डारकशब्दे दृश्यम्
