EnglishAbhyankara Grammar
Englishपदपाठ the recital of the Veda text pronouncing or showing each word separately as detached from the adjoining word. It is believed that the Veda texts were recited originally as running texts by the inspired sages, and as such, they were preserved by people by oral tradition. Later on after several centuries, their individually dis- tinct words were shown by gram- marians who were called Pada- kāras. The पदपाठ later on had many modifications or artificial recitations such as क्रम, जटा, घन etc. in which each word was repeated twice or more times, being uttered connectedly with the preceding or the following word, or with both. These artificial recitations were of eight kinds, which came to be known by the term अष्टविकृतयः.
