 देव इव शर्मा अशुभनाशकः, कर्म० वा । १ ब्राह्म-णस्योपनामनि “ततश्च नाम कुर्वीत पितैव दशमेऽहनि ।देवपूर्वं नराख्यं हि शर्मवर्मादिसंयुतम्” बिष्णुपु० । “नरमा-चष्टे नराख्यं नरनाम । देवपूर्वं देवात् पूर्वं तच्च विशिष्टंशर्मयुतं तच्चान्ते” शृणाति हिनस्त्यशुभ शॄ--मनिन् शर्मा ।देवपदं हि विप्राणां नाममात्रसम्बद्धम्” शु० त० । “शर्मादेवश्च विप्रस्य शर्मा त्राता च भूभुजः । भृतिर्दत्तश्चवैश्यस्यदासः शूद्रस्य कारयेत्” यमवचने शर्म्मदेवयोः क्रमेणनिर्देशेऽपि “शर्म्मान्तं व्राह्मणस्य स्यात् वर्म्मान्तं क्षत्रियस्यतु” शातातपोक्तेः शर्म्मान्ततैव नामनि ज्ञेया अतएव त-र्पणप्रयोगे “अमुकगोत्रः पिता अमुकदेवशर्मा तृप्यतामे-तत्तिलोदकं तस्मै स्वधेति” आ० त० । “शर्म्मन्नर्घादिकेकार्य्ये शर्म्मा तर्पणकर्मणि” गोभिलेन च शर्मान्तताउक्ता । २ ऋषिभेदे “देवशर्म्मा च धौम्यश्च हस्तिकाश्यपएव च” भा० अनु० १६५ ।
