पुराणम्
English
तुर्वीति / TURVĪTI I. A King extolled in the ṛgveda.
तुर्वीति / TURVĪTI II. A King. But since in some places he is mentioned as a sage, it must be presumed that he must have been a King who had become a sannyāsin during the latter part of his life. Once this sage was drowned and indra came in time and rescued him. (Sūkta 61, Maṇḍala 1, ṛgveda).
Vedic Reference
English
Turvīti is mentioned several times in the Rigveda, both in
association with Vayya^1 and alone.^2 In three passages^3
reference is made to Indra aiding him over a flood. Ludwig^4
has conjectured that he was king of the Turvaśas and Yadus.
But there is no sufficient evidence for this view, though
presumably he was of the Turvaśa tribe.
