literally, ‘palmyra-leaf’
an order from the king or a person in authority. Cf. olai-ccāda-
nam, ‘a document written on palm-leaf’
olai-ccampaḍam, ‘wages
paid to the messenger who brings the olai to meet his expenses
on the way’
also written as olai-ccambaḻam, olai-ccammāḍam, etc.
same as nirūpa-ccambaḍam
cf. olai-nāyaka, ‘the chief secretary
or the senior officer looking after correspondence.’

(एतस्य व्यजनगुणा यथा, --“तालपत्रमरुद्रूक्षः कोष्णो वातस्य शान्तिकृत् ।निद्राकरः प्रीतिकरः शोषरोगविकारहा ॥
दाहपित्तश्रमग्लानिनाशनो भ्रमशान्तिकृत् ।मधुरोऽतिश्रमघ्नः स्यादार्द्रत्वे कफकोपनः ॥
