Sanskritग्रास ग्रस्यते ग्रस--कर्मणि घञ् । मुखपूरणयोग्यान्नादौतन्मानञ्च “कुक्कुटाण्डप्रमाणश्च यावान् वा प्रविशेनमुखम् ।एतं ग्रासं विजानीयात् शुद्ध्यर्थं कायशोधनम्” पराशरः ।“यावतो ग्रसते ग्रासान् हव्यकव्येष्वमन्त्रवित् । तावतोग्रसते प्रेत्य तीव्रशूलर्ष्ट्ययोगुडान्” “ग्रामादाहृत्यबाश्नीयादष्टौ ग्रासान् वने वसन्” “ऐकैकं ग्रासमश्नी-यात् त्र्यहाणि त्रीणि पूर्व्ववत्” इति च मनुः । “सायंद्वाविंशतिर्ग्रासाःप्रातः षड्विंशतिः स्मृताः । अया-चिते चतुविशः परञ्चानशनं स्मृतम” पराशरः ।प्रायश्चित्ते ग्रासभोजनस्य परिसङ्ख्यारूपत्वमुक्त प्रा० त०“भोजनस्य रागप्राप्तत्वात् नापाप्तपापको विधिः ।सचाहरहः सन्ध्यामुपासीत पव्येवं रूपः । नापितद्भक्षणस्यानावश्यकत्वेन स्वायोगव्यवच्छेदमात्रफलकोनियमविधिः । स च तत्ततिथौ तत्तदगासान् भुञ्जीतै-वेत्येवं रूपः । तथा च “स्वरुच्या क्रियमाणे च यत्रावश्यंक्रिया क्वचित् । नोद्यते नियमः सोऽत्र ऋतावभिगमोयथा” । तथात्वे च पितृमरणादावपि भोजनं प्रसज्येतहविष्यान्नभोजनव्रतादावपि उपवासाभाव एव सम्प-द्येत तद्भक्षणसमकालमेवान्यभक्षणेऽपि न दोषःस्यात् ।तस्मादगत्या “श्रुतार्थस्य परित्यागादश्रुतार्थय्यकल्पनात् ।प्राप्तस्य बाधादित्येवं परिसंख्या त्रिदोषिका” । इत्युक्तस्वार्थहान्यर्यान्तरकल्पनरागप्राप्तबाधरूपदोषत्रयदूष्टापि अ-न्ययोगव्यवच्छेदफलिका परिसंख्यैव युक्ता, सा चसतिं भोजने तत्तत्तिथौ तत्तद् ग्रासानेव भुञ्जीत नान्य-दित्येवं रूपा तस्मात्तदतिरिक्तभोजनाभावपरत्वेन उप-वासेऽपि दोषाभावः । तदुक्तं भट्टपादैः “अन्यार्थश्रूयमाणा च यान्यार्थपतिषेधिका । परिसंख्यां तु साज्ञेया यथा प्रोक्षितभोजनम्” । अन्यथा प्राजापत्यव्रतेऽपि “त्र्यहमद्यादयाचितमिति” “अयाचितन्तुमध्याह्ने चतुर्विंशन्तु शुद्धये” इति ब्रह्मपुराणोक्तस्या-याचितस्यालाभे व्रतलोपापत्तिः स्यात्” ॥
