काण्वशिरस् / KĀṆVAŚIRAS. A caste. Originally they were Kṣatriyas. In mahābhārata,  anuśāsana parva,  Chapter 35,  Verse 17 we find that they were reduced to low caste because of their being jealous of the superiority of the Brāhmaṇas.
