 “प्रवन्धस्य कल्पनारचना बह्वनृतास्तोकसत्या” । इति भरतः ॥
“प्रबन्धकल्पनां स्तोकसत्यां प्राज्ञाः कथां विदुः ।परम्पराश्रया या स्यात् सा मताख्यायिका क्वचित्” ॥
इति कोलाहलाचार्य्यः ॥
 (“नैयायिकमते हिनानावक्तृकपूर्व्वपक्षसिद्धान्तवान् वाक्यसन्दर्भः” ।यया,  मनुः । ३ । २३१ ।“यद्यद्रोचेत विप्रेभ्यस्तत्तद्दद्यादमत्सरः ।ब्रह्मोद्याश्च कथाः कुर्य्यात्पितणामेतदीप्सितम्” ॥
वार्त्ता । वाक्यम् । यथा,  रघुः । ८ । ४३ ।“अभितप्तमयोऽपि मार्द्दवंभजते कैव कथा शरीरिषु” ॥

 कथा स्त्री कथ--नि० अ । १ कथने,  “अभितप्तमयोऽपा मादेवभजते कैव कथा शरीरिणाम्” “आप्तागमानुमानाभ्यांसाध्यं त्वां प्रति का कथा” रघुः । “का कथा वाणस-न्धाने ज्याशब्देनैव दूरतः” शकु० । “सत्त्वासत्त्वकथावृथा” खण्डनखा० । “कथाप्रसङ्गेन मिथः सखीमु-खात्” नैष० । “कथाप्रसङ्गेन जनैरुदाहृतात्” किरा० ।“प्रबन्धकल्पनां स्तोकसत्यां प्राज्ञाः कथां विदुः । पर-म्पराश्रया या स्यात् सा मताख्यायिका गुधेः”इत्युक्तलक्षणे २ स्तोकसत्यप्रबन्धरूपे वाक्ये । प्रबन्धरूप-वाक्यसमुदायत्मकत्वाच्च कादम्बर्य्यादीनां कथात्वं तत्रशूद्रकनृपवृत्तान्तस्य सत्यत्वात् अन्यस्य सर्वस्य मिथ्यामूतस्यैव कविना कल्पनेन प्रबन्धनात् । पक्षप्रतिपक्षोपन्धसेनविचाररूपे ३ वाक्ये च । विचाराङ्गकथा हि त्रिविधावादजल्पवितण्डाभेदात् तत्र “प्रमाणतर्कसाधनोपलम्भःसिद्धान्ताविरुद्धः पञ्चावयवोपपन्नः पक्षप्रतिपक्षपरिग्रहोयादः” । “यथोक्तोपपन्नच्छलजातिनिग्रहस्थानसाधनोप-लम्भोजल्पः” “स्वपक्षस्थापनाहीनो वितण्डा” गौ० सूत्रैःवादादयो लक्षिता विशेषस्तत्तच्छब्दे वक्ष्यते । कथायांसाधुकथादि० ठक् । काथिक कथासाघौ त्रि०
