Aupoditi, ‘descendant of Upodita, ’ is the patronymic applied
in the Taittirīya Saṃhitā^1 to Tumiñja, and in the Baudhāyana
Śrauta Sūtra^2 to Gaupālāyana, son of Vyāghrapad, Sthapati
(‘general’) of the Kurus. In the form of Aupoditeya, a metro-
nymic from Upoditā, the name is found in the Śatapatha
Brāhmaṇa, ^3 where the Kāṇva text calls him Tumiñja Aupo-
diteya Vaiyāghrapadya.
