पुराणम्
Englishऋक् / ṚK. A small section of the veda. The veda which issued from the face of God at the time of creation, consisted of 1, 00, 000 books in four sections, beginning with Ṛk. (viṣṇu purāṇa, Part III, Chapter 4). The root “ṚC” means “to praise”. It got the name “ṚK” meaning, “to praise gods”.

Sanskritऋक्, [च्] (ऋच्यन्ते स्तूयन्ते देवा अनया ।ऋच् + क्विप् ।) वेदविशेषः । ऋग्वेदः । इत्यमरः ॥
अस्य एकविंशतिशाखाः । वेदमन्त्रविशेषः । तस्यलक्षणम् । यत्रार्थवशेन पादव्यवस्थितिः । अस्यार्थः ।यत्रार्थवशेन एकान्वयित्वेनानुष्टुवादिपादस्थितिः ।इति जैमिनिः ॥
