आरुणि १ / ĀRUṆI I. A disciple of the sage āyodhadhaumya. (For details see under āyodhadhaumya).
आरुणि २ / ĀRUṆI II. A cobra born in the family of the serpent, dhṛtarāṣṭra. This cobra fell dead at the sarpasatra of janamejaya. (Śloka 19, Chapter 57, Ādi Parva, M.B.).
आरुणि ३ / ĀRUṆI III. A son born to kaśyapa of his wife vinatā. (Śloka 40, Chapter 65, Ādi Parva, M.B.).
आरुणि ४ / ĀRUṆI IV. A soldier of the kaurava army. He fought against arjuna along with śakuni. (Śloka 122, Chapter 156, droṇa parva, M.B.).

Āruṇi is the patronymic normally referring to Uddālaka,
son of Aruṇa Aupaveśi. Uddālaka is probably also meant by
Āruṇi Yaśasvin, who occurs as a teacher of the Subrahmaṇyā
(a kind of recitation) in the Jaiminīya Brāhmaṇa.^1 Āruṇis are
referred to both in the Jaiminīya Upaniṣad Brāhmaṇa^2 and in
the Kāṭhaka Saṃhitā, ^3 as well as in the Aitareya Āraṇyaka.^4

 अरुणस्यापत्यम् इञ् । १ उद्दालके गौतमे मुनौ “उद्दा-लकोहारुणिः श्वेतकेतुं पुत्रमुवाच” छा० उ० । २ वैशम्पाय-नान्तेवासिभेदे । तस्यान्तेवासिनश्च आलम्ब लङ्ग कमलरुचाभारुणि ताण्ड्यश्यामायन कठ कलापिनोनवेति बो-ध्यम् । तेनाधीतं णिनि । ब्राह्मणे तस्य लुक् । आरुणिः ।३ सामवेदब्राह्मणभेदे आयोदधोम्यशिष्ये ४ मुनिभेदे आयो-दशब्दे उदा० ५ अरुणमुनेरपत्ये पुंस्त्री स्त्रियां ङीप् ।“यदारुणीषु तावषीरयुग्ध्वम्” ऋ० १, ६४, ७ । अरुण-स्येदम् इञ् । ६ अरुणसम्बन्धिनि अरुणस्य सूर्य्यस्यापत्यम्इञ् । ७ अरुणतनये अरुणसुतशब्दोक्ते यमादौ ।अरुणस्यायमनुजातत्वात् इञ् । अरुणानुजे विनतायाः८ सुतभेदे । “तार्क्ष्य श्चारिष्टनेमिश्च गरुडश्च महाबलः ।अरुणश्चारुणिश्चैव विनतायाः सुताः स्मृताः” हरिवं ० २२६अ० “अरुणश्चारुणिश्चैव तस्य प्राञ्जलयः स्थिताः” हरिवं०२६१ अ० । अ रुणस्य गरुडाग्रजस्यापत्यम् इञ् । ९ गरु-डाग्रजस्यापत्ये पुंस्त्री । स्त्रियां ङीप् ।
