"अशोकवृक्षों के उद्यान का न्याय, रावण ने सीता को अशोकवाटिका में रक्खा था, परन्तु उसने और स्थ्यानों को छोड़ कर इसी वाटिका में क्यों रक्खा, इसका कोई विशेष कारण नहीं बताया जा सकता। सारांश यह हुआ कि जब मनुष्य के पास किसी कार्य को सम्पन्न करने के अनेक साधन प्राप्त हों, तो यह उसकी इच्छा है कि वह चाहे किसी साधन को अपना ले। ऐसी अवस्था मॆम् किसी भी साधन को अपनाने का कोई विशेष कारण नहीं दिया जा सकता। "

aSoka-vanikAnyAya {% m. %} the maxim of the grove of aśoka trees. The maxim takes its origin from Rāvaṇa’s keeping Sītā in an aśoka grove and denotes that, where there are several connections possible, any one of them is as good as another and the preference of one of them cannot be accounted for, as Rāvaṇa’s preference of an अशोकवनिका as a resort for Sītā could not be accounted for.
