the ceremony of the first and sixth of
these days is called ज्योतिस्, of the second and fourth गो,
of the third and fifth आयुस् (Kalpavyākhyā: ज्योतिर्गौरा-
युर्गौरायुर्ज्योतिरिति षडहोऽभिप्लव इत्युच्यते)
the अभिप्लव
recurs several times at the various stages of the Gavā-
mayana and bears its name, according to a legend of the
Śatapatha-Br., because the Ādityās, rivalling with the Angi-
rasas in the precedence of getting into the paradise, jumped
into it by means of the hymns which occur in this ceremony
‘अथादित्याश्च ह वा अङ्गिरसश्च । उभये प्राजापत्या अस्पर्धन्त
वयं पूर्वे स्वर्गं लोकमेष्यामो वयं पूर्व इति । त आदित्याः । च-
तुर्भि स्तोमैश्चतुर्भिः पृष्ठैर्लघुभिः सामभिः स्वर्गं लोकमभ्यप्लवन्त
यदभ्यप्लवन्त तस्मादभिप्लवाः’. E. प्लु with अभि, kṛt aff. अप्.

 अभिप्लवन्ते स्वर्गमभिगच्छन्ति अभि + प्लु--गतौअच् । १ प्राजापये आदित्ये । “अथादित्याश्च आङ्गिर-सश्च उभये प्राजापत्या अस्पर्द्धन्तवयं पूर्बे स्वर्गं लोकमेष्यामो-वयं पूर्ब इति । आदित्याश्चतुर्भिः स्तौमैश्चतुर्मिः पृष्ट्यैर्ल-घुभिः सामभिः स्वर्गं लोकमभ्यप्लवन्त तस्मादभिप्लवाःआदित्याः” शत० ब्रा० । वर्षसाध्ये गवामयने प्रत्येकमासीय-चतुर्विंशतिदिवसेषु चतुःषट्कात्मकेषु चतुर्षु षडहेषु विशेषःगवामयनशब्दे वक्ष्यते । “अभिप्लवः षडहः षड्द्यहानिभवन्त्यभिप्लवः” इति शत० ब्रा० । “अभिप्लवं पूर्व्वं पुरस्ताद्विषु-वत् उपयन्ति चतुर्विंशेन महाव्रतमभिप्लवेन परमभिप्लव-मिति” च शत० ब्रा० । ३ षडहसाध्ये स्तोमादिफुष्ठसाधनकगवामयनाङ्गयागभेदे च । ४ उपप्लवे--उपद्रवे ५ सर्व्वतःप्लवने च । अभिप्लवे विहितः ठक् । आभिप्लविकः उक्त-षडहेषु विहिते सामादौ ।
