which is produced when the vowel in the beginning of
a word is suppressed after a final or

Vājas.- and Atharv.-Prātiśākhyas the स्वरित (q. v.) which
is produced in consequence of an anudātta (in the be-
ginning of a word) being suppressed after a final udātta
or ए. The Taittir.-Prāt. calls the latter अभिनिहत (acc. to
Weber, Ind. Stud. IV. p. 135). E. धा with नि and अभि, kṛt aff. क्त.

अभिनिहित used in connection with a सन्धि or euphonic combination in which the vowel अ, as a first or a second member, is absorbed into the other member. e. g. रथेभ्यः + अग्रे = रथेभ्योऽग्रे also दाशुषेऽग्रे, where of अग्रे is absorbed or merged in of रथेभ्यः or of दाशुषे
