अभिनवचन्द्रार्घविधि Tatpur. m. (-धिः) The ceremony of
presenting the idols of the new moon and of his wife Ro-
hiṇī, placed on the ground in a circle of cowdung, with
flowers, sandal, perfumes, a lamp, fried grain, water,
young Dūrvā grass ornamented with jewels, curdled milk
and white cloth, while reciting the prayer: ‘thou art ever
new at the end of the month, born again and again
in-
crease for my benefit
hail! hail to thee, Lord of the Soma!’
the time of the ceremony is the evening twilight of the
second day of the light half of every month (i. e. of the
second day of the fifteen days of the moon's increase),
when the sun stands in the west with twelve degrees of its
circumference. The rite is performed by a Kshatriya with
his house chaplain, and great boons are promised to him
in this and the future world for the regular fulfillment of
this act of piety
(according to the Bhavishyottara-Purāṇa,
where the principal passage runs thus: रवेर्द्वादशभिर्भागैर्वा-
रुण्यां दृश्यते यदि । प्रदोषसमये पार्थ (Kṛṣṇa speaks to
Arjuna) अर्घं दद्यात्तदा विभो ॥ द्वितीयायां सिते पक्षे संध्या-
काले ह्युपस्थिते । संस्थाप्याभिनवं चन्द्रं भूम्यां गोमयमण्डले ॥
रोहिण्या सहितं देवं चन्दनेन सुशोभनम् । पुष्पचन्दनधूपैश्च
दीपाक्षतजलैः शुभैः ॥ दूर्वाङ्कुरै रत्नधरैर्दध्ना (v. l. रत्नघनैर्दध्ना)
वस्त्रैश्च पाण्डुरैः (v. l. पाण्डवैः) । मन्त्रेणानेन राजेन्द्रः क्षत्रियः
सपुरोहितः (Mss. °तम्) ॥ नवो नवोऽसि मासान्ते जायमानः
पुनः पुनः । आप्यायस्व च मेऽप्येवं सोमराज नमो नमः ॥ अ-
नेन विधिना चार्घं सर्वकामप्रदं शुभम् । यः प्रयच्छति कौन्तेय
मासि मासि समाहितः ॥ स कीर्त्या यशसा युक्तः कान्त्या च भुवि
मानवः । पुत्रपौत्रपरिवृतो गोधान्यधनसंकुलः ॥ स्थित्वा वर्षशतं
