II. अबधा Tatpur. (?) (In Geometry.) (Thus defined by
Colebrooke:) ‘From the point, where a perpendicular fall-
ing from the apex meets the base, the two portions or di-
visions of the ground on their respective sides (or, if the
perpendicular fall without the figure in an obtuse-angled
one, on the same side) are distinguished by this name’
(‘लम्बस्य पार्श्वद्वययोरन्यतमा भूमिः’)
e. g. in the Līlavatī:
दशसप्तदशप्रमौ भुजौ त्रिभुजे यत्र नवप्रमा मही । अबधे वद
लम्बकं तथा गणितं गाणितिकाशु तत्र मे.--Also आबाधा
or अवबाधा (not अवबधा). E. Probably the curtailed form
of आबाधा, unless it be more correct to write the word
अवधा, when the etym. would be धा, with अव, kṛt aff.

अबधा स्त्री न बध्यतेऽस्यते लम्बेन । लीलावत्युक्ते त्रिकोणादिक्षेत्रे लम्बोभयपार्श्वस्थे भूमिखण्डे । न, बाध्यते आबाध्यतेवा, अवाधा आवाधाऽप्यत्र । तदानयनञ्च “त्रिभुजे भुजयो-र्योगस्तदन्तरगुणो भुवा हृतो लब्ध्या । द्विःस्था भूरूनयुतादलिताऽबाधे तयोः स्यातामिति” लीला० । “दशसप्तदशप्रमौभुजौ त्रिभुजेयत्र नवप्रमा मही । अबधे वद लम्बकंतथा मणितं गाणितिकाशु तत्र मे” इति लीला०अबधोद्देशकः ।
