अप्सुमत् m. f. n. (-मान्-मती-मत्)
^1 Having or possessing
what is in water or arises from water
e. g. Agni so called
from his combination with the fire of lightning which is in,
or comes from, the rain-waters
or in the Chhāndogya Up.:
न हाप्सु प्रैत्यप्सुमान्भवति य एतदेवं विद्वान्सर्वास्वप्सु पञ्चविधं
सामोपास्ते (where Ānandajn. explains the word ‘possessed
with water’, viz. असावुपासको मरुस्थलीष्वपि यथेच्छमुदक-
वान्भवतीत्यर्थः, but it is perhaps better to say that such a
worshipper becomes possessed with all the benefits that
are in, or come from, water).

panied with, the word अप्सु
as verses, e. g. in the Śatap.:
अप्सुमतीभ्यामग्नेरेतद्वैश्वानरस्य स्तोत्रम्
or as oblations, e. g.
अप्सुमन्तावाज्यभागौ, whereon the Prauḍham. observes:
अप्सुमन्ताविति । कारीर्या आज्यभागयोः । अप्सु अग्ने सधिष्ठ
च । अप्सु मे सोमोऽब्रवीदित्यनुवाक्ये । तत्र चाप्सुशब्दोऽस्ति.

 अप्सु आपः जलानि सन्त्यस्य “अपोयोनि-यन्मतुपः” वार्ति० सप्तम्या मतुप् अलुक्स० च ।१ जलसंपृक्ते आधारज्यभागे । “अप्सुमन्तावाधाराज्यभागा-विति” सि० कौ० । २ यथेष्टं ऊललब्धरि च “न हाप्सुप्रैत्यप्सुमान् भवति, छा० उप० । मरुस्थलीष्वपि यथेष्टो-दकवान् भवतीति” आनन्दगिरिः ।
