[Mahīdhara explains in Vājas. 10. 7. अपस्यो वसानाः as epi-
thets to the preceding word आपः ‘waters’ and renders अपस्यः
in the stated sense
but the commentators on a Vārttika
to Pāṇ. V. 4. 30. ‘वसुअपस्°°’ (misprinted in the present
edition and therefore in the reprint of that edition ‘वसुअ-
यस्°°’) explain अपस्याः as meaning ‘water’
and while Ma-
hīdhara takes अपस्यः as an irregular nom. plur. instead of
अपस्याः, Patanjali and, after him, the Kāśikā consider it as
an irregular accus. (= अपः)
Patanjali: अपस्यो वसानाः ।
अपो वसानाः ॥. Kaiyyaṭa: अप्शब्दाद्द्वितीयाबहुवचनान्ता-
