^1 A man who, from his mode of liv-
ing, does not cook for himself

e. g.
अपचः परिव्राजक
or अपचो दीक्षितः
or a householder in
a state of destitution: ‘गृहस्थधर्मवृत्तो यो ददातिपरिवर्जितः
ऋषिभिर्धर्मतत्त्वज्ञैरपचः प्रकीर्तितः’
eating the food of
such a man, entails on the receiver the penance of the
Chāndrāyaṇa ‘अपचस्य भुक्त्वान्नं द्विजश्चान्द्रायणं चरेत्’.

one who cooks. (In the second and third meaning the word
is udātta on the last syllable
in the other meanings it is
