2. the locative of अन्य, absolutely or with the ellipsis of a
word implying ‘place’, ‘manner’ &c., viz.
1. = the ablative of अन्य, ‘from another’
e. g. भावितं
पक्षतोऽभीष्टौ त्यक्त्वा वर्णौ सरूपकौ । अन्यतो भाविताङ्केन
ततः पक्षौ विभज्य च &c., i. e. ‘removing the factum from one
side and the simple colours and absolute numbers from the
other, as optionally selected, and dividing both sides of the
equation by the coefficient of the factum &c.’
also with a
noun depending on it in the ablative, e. g. in the comm. of
the Kāsikā on Pāṇ. IV. 1. 40. ‘तोपधादन्यतः प्रातिपदिका-
द्वर्णवाचिनोऽनुदात्तात्स्त्रियां ङीष्प्रत्ययो भवति.
2. = the locative of अन्य and in the same sense as अन्यत्र,
viz.

explanation of विज्ञान, ‘मोक्षे ज्ञानं विज्ञानमन्यतः, i. e.
ज्ञान means (knowledge of what concerns) final emancipa-
tion, विज्ञान other (knowledge), where अन्यतः represents
the locative अन्यस्मिन्, the explaining words being put in
the locative, and does not mean ‘in another case, else-
where’.
