Die alte Erklärung aus a und dhvara,  „was nicht gestört werden darf“,  ist zu verwerfen schon darum,  weil dhvar nicht „stören“ heisst,  sondern „zu Fall bringen,  täuschen“,  und die etwas anders gewandte Erklärung Benfeyʼs,  wonach adhvará [Page49] ursprünglich „truglos“ bezeichne,  und die Schweizer (Kuhnʼs Zeitschr. 〔1, 154〕) aufgenommen hat,  ist schon von Benfey selbst (SV. gl. ṛtú) durch die richtige ersetzt.
