अतद्गुणः [atadguṇḥ], (Rhet. ) The 'non-borrower',

 of a figure of speech in which the thing in question does not assume the quality of another, though there is a reason for it
परगुणाननुहारस्त्वस्य तत्स्यादतद्गुणः
e. g. धवलो$ सि यद्यपि सुन्दर तथापि त्वया मम रञ्जितं हृदयम् । रागपूरिते$पि हृदये सुभग निहितो न रक्तो$सि ॥ 6K.P.* 1
6or संगतान्यगुणानङ्गीकारमाहुर- तद्गुणम् । चिरं रागिणि मच्चित्ते निहितो$पि न रज्यसि ॥ Kuval.

 “तद्रू पाननुहारस्तु हेतौ सत्यप्यतद्गुण इति”दर्पणोक्ते अर्थालङ्कारभेदे, “हन्त सान्द्रेण रागेण भृतेऽपिहृदये मम । गुणगौर! निषण्णोऽपि कथं? नाम न रज्य-सीति । अत्रातिरक्तहृदयसंबन्धात् उचितमपि रक्तत्वंन निष्पन्नमिति हेतुसद्भावेऽपि तद्रूपाननुहरणात्तथात्वम् ।
