अंधक a. [अंध्-कन्] Blind
अंधकः कुब्जकश्चैव Pt. 5. 91.
कः 1 N. of an Asura, son of Kaśyapa and Diti and killed by Śiva. [He is represented as a demon with 1000 arms and heads, 2000 eyes and feet, and called Andhaka, because he walked like a blind man, though he could see very well
व्रजत्यंधवद्यस्मादनंधोपि हि भारत तमंधंकोयं नाम्नेति प्रोचुस्तत्र निवासिनः He was slain by Śiva when he attempted to carry off the Pārijāta tree from heaven
whence Śiva is called Andhakaripu, -ari, -dvish &c. According to the Matsya Purāṇa Andhaka was admitted to the class of Gaṇas by Śiva, at his importunities and humble supplication, when he was about to be killed by the god for having attempted to carry off his wife Pārvatī].

"एक राक्षस का नाम जो कश्यप और दिति का पुत्र था। इसकी शिव ने हत्या कर दी थी। इसके वर्णन मिलता है कि एक हजार भुजाएँ और सिर थे, २००० आँखें और पैर थे। वह अंधों की भाँति चलता था इस लिए लोग उसे अंधक कहते थे, चाहे वह पूर्णतः ठीक ठीक देख सकता था। जब उसने स्वर्ग से पारिजात वृक्ष उठा कर ले जाने का प्रयत्न किया तो शिव ने उसकी हत्या कर दी।"
