Vedic Reference
EnglishSaudāsa in the plural designates the ‘descendants of Sudās, ’
who are referred to in the Jaiminīya Brāhmaṇa^1 as having cast
Śakti, the son of Vasiṣṭha, into the fire. Other texts^2 relate
that Vasiṣṭha, his son being slain, desired to avenge himself on
the Saudāsas, and eventually succeeded. Geldner^3 sees a
reference to the story in the Rigveda, ^4 but without cause.
