सुरभि / SURABHI. The cow of the devas. (For details see under kāmadhenu and saurabhī).

सुरभि २ / SURABHI II. A cow born from the ‘Huṁkāra’ (the sound ‘hum’) of brahmā. As the cow grew up,  milk began dripping down on earth from its udder and gradually it formed into the kṣīrasāgara (ocean of milk). Four daughters,  surūpā,  haṁsikā,  subhadrā and Sarvakāmadhuk were born to surabhi and they are considered to be protectors of the four regions. surabhi lives in the seventh world beneath the earth i.e. rasātala. (Udyoga Parva,  Chapter 100).

श्रीनारायण उवाच ।गवामधिष्ठातृदेवी गवामाद्या गवां प्रसूः ।गवां प्रधाना सुरभी गोलोके सा समुद्भवा ॥
सर्व्वादिसृष्टिकथनं कथयामि निशामय ।बभूव येन तज्जन्म पुरा वृन्दावने वने ॥
एकदा राधिकानाथो राधया सह कौतुकात् ।गोपाङ्गनापरिवृतः पुण्यं वृन्दावनं ययौ ॥
सहसा तत्र रहसि विजहार च कौतुकात् ।बभूव क्षीरपानेच्छा तदा स्वेच्छामयस्य च ॥
ससृजे सुरभिं देवो लीलया वामपार्श्वतः ।वत्सयुक्तां दुग्धवतीं वत्सो नाम्ना मनोरथः ॥
दृष्ट्वा सवत्सां मुदामा रत्नभाण्डे दुदोह च ।क्षीरं सधातिरिक्तञ्च जन्ममृत्युजरापहम् ॥
तदुष्णञ्च पयः स्वादु पपौ गोपीपतिः स्वयम् ।सरो बभूव पयस्रा भाण्डविस्रं शनेन च ॥
दैर्घे च विस्तृते चैव परितः शतयोजनम् ।गोलोके सुप्रसिद्धश्च स च क्षीरसरोवरः ॥
गोपिकानाञ्च राधायाः क्रीडावापी बभूव सा ।रत्नेन खचिता तूर्णं भूता वापीश्वरेच्छया ॥
बभूवुः कामधेनूनां सहसा लक्षकोटयः ।तावन्तो हि च वत्माश्च सुरभीलोमकूपतः ।तासां पुत्त्राः प्रपौत्त्राश्च सम्बभूवुरसंख्यकाः ।कथिता च गवां सृष्टिस्तया च पूजितं जगत् ॥
पूजाञ्चकार भगवान् सुरभ्याश्च पुरा मुने ।ततो बभूव तत्पूजा त्रिषु लोकेषु दुर्लभा ॥
दीपान्वितापरदिने श्रीकृष्णस्याज्ञया हरेः ।बभूव सुरभीपूजा धर्म्मवक्त्रादिति श्रुतम् ॥
ध्यानं स्तोत्रं मूलमन्त्रं यद्यत् पूजाविधिक्रमम् ।वेदोक्तञ्च महाभाग निबोध कथयामि ते ॥
ओँ सुरभ्यै नम इति मन्त्रस्तस्याः षडक्षरः ।सिद्धो लक्षजपेनैव भक्तानां कल्पपादपः ॥
ध्यानं यजुर्व्वेदोक्तं तत् पूज्यञ्च सर्व्वसम्मतम् ।ऋद्धिदं वृद्धिदञ्चैव मुक्तिदं सर्व्वकामदम् ॥
लक्ष्मीस्वरूपां परमां राधासहचरीं पराम् ।गवामधिष्ठातृदेवीं गवामाद्यां गवां प्रसूम् ॥
पवित्ररूप्रां पूज्याञ्च भक्तानां सर्व्वकामदाम् ।यथा पूतं सर्व्वविश्वं तां देवीं सुरभीं भजे ॥
घटे वा धेनुशिरसि बद्धस्तम्भे गवामपि ।शालग्रमे जले वाग्नौ सुरभीं पूजयेद्द्विजः ।दीपान्वितापरदिने पूर्व्वाह्ले भक्तिसंयुतः ।यः पूजयेच्च सुरभिं स च पूज्यो भवेद्भुवि ॥
एकदा त्रिषु लोकेषु वाराहे विष्णुमायया ।क्षीरं जहार सहसा चिन्तिताश्च सुरादयः ॥
ते गत्वा ब्रह्मलोकञ्च ब्रह्माणं तुष्टुवुस्तदा ।तदाज्ञया च सुरसीं तुष्टाव पाकशासनः ॥
महेन्द्र उवाच ।नमो देव्यै महादेव्यै सुरभ्यै च नमो नमः ।गवां वीजस्वरूपायै नमस्ते जगदम्बिके ॥
नमो राधाप्रियायै च पद्मेशायै नमो नमः ।नमः कृष्णप्रियायै च गवां मात्रे नमो नमः ॥
कल्पवृक्षस्वरूपायै सर्व्वेषां सन्ततं परम् ।श्रीदामधनदायै च वृद्धिदायै नमो नमः ।यशोदायै कीर्त्तिदायै धर्म्मदायै नमो नमः ॥
स्तोत्रश्रवणमात्रेण तुष्टा हृष्टा जगत्प्रसूः ।आविर्ब्बमूव तत्रैव ब्रह्मलोके सनातनी ॥
महेन्द्राय वरं दत्त्वा वाञ्छितञ्चातिदुर्लभम् ।जगाम सा च गोलोकं ययुर्देवादयो गृहम् ॥
बभूव विश्वं सहसा दुग्धपूर्णञ्च नारद ।दुग्धाद्घृतं ततो यज्ञस्ततः प्रीतिः सुरस्य च ॥
इदं स्तोत्रं महापुण्यं भक्तियुक्तश्च यः पठेत् ।स गोमान् धनवांश्चैव कीर्त्तिमान् पुण्यवान्भवेत् ॥
स स्नातः सर्व्वतीर्थेषु सर्व्वयज्ञेषु दीक्षितः ।इह लोके सुखं भुक्ता यात्यन्ते कृष्णमन्दिरम् ॥
सुचिरं निवसेत्तत्र करोति कृष्णसेवनम् ।न पुनर्भव्रनं तस्य ब्रह्मपुत्त्र भवे भवेत् ॥
”इति श्रीब्रह्मवैवर्त्ते प्रकृतिखण्डे सुरभ्युपाख्यानंनाम ४७ अध्यायः ॥
