शरभ १ / ŚARABHA I. A nāga born in the takṣaka dynasty. It was burnt to death at Janamejaya's serpent yajña. (Ādi Parva,  Chapter 57,  Verse 8).

शरभ २ / ŚARABHA II. A nāga born in the airāvata dynasty. It was burnt to death at Janamejaya's serpent yajña. (Ādi Parva,  Chapter 57,  Verse 11).

शरभ ३ / ŚARABHA III. A notorious dānava,  son of Kaśyapaprajāpati by his wife danu. (Ādi Parva,  Chapter 65,  Verse 26).

शरभ ४ / ŚARABHA IV. A maharṣi,  who worships yama in his court. (Sabhā Parva,  Chapter 8,  Verse 14).

veda^1 and later.^2 In the classical literature it is a fabulous, 
eight-legged beast,  dwelling in the snowy mountains,  a foe of
lions and elephants: the commentator Mahīdhara sees this
sense,  but without reason,  in the Vājasaneyi Saṃhitā. The
animal is spoken of as akin to the goat
