परिष्कृता यज्ञार्थं पशुबन्धनाय यज्ञपात्रासाद-नाय चातिसंस्कारा भूमिर्वेदिरुच्यते । सा चडमरुकाद्याकारा पिण्डिका । वेदयति निवा-रयति द्रव्यजातं वेदिः । विद ङ क ञ चेतना-ख्याने वासवादे नाम्नीति इः । वेदिः स्त्री वेदीच । इति भरतः ॥
(यथा, रघुः । ११ । २५ ।“वीक्ष्य वेदिमथ रक्तबिन्दुभिः-र्बन्धुजीवपृथुभिः प्रदूषिताम् ॥
