These nine scholars were known by the name navaratnas (the nine jewels). They were dhanvantari, Kṣapaṇaka, Amarasiṁha, śaṅku, Vetālabhaṭṭa, ghaṭakarpara, kālidāsa, Varāhamihira and vararuci.
