Daśa-gva appears in one hymn of the Rigveda^1 as the name
of a person who was assisted by Indra. The other references
in that work, ^2 however, clearly show the mythical character
of the Daśagvas, and of any individual among them.

dáśa-gva, a., m., aus zehn bestehend [ursprünglich in einer Gemeinschaft von zehn gehend, s. gva], Zehner. Die Zehner sind eine Schar von Halbgöttern, die, gewöhnlich neben den Neunern (návagva) genannt, dem Indra in seinen Kämpfen beistehen ({62, 4}
{273, 5}), ihm Soma und Lieder spenden ({383, 12}), die ersten Opfer bringen ({225, 12}). Insbesondere wird ein Zehner als Repräsentant der übrigen genannt, und als áṅgirastama ({888, 6}) oder áṅgira ({347, 4}) oder als ádhrigu ({632, 2}) bezeichnet.
